Before You Shop
- Set a total budget, including taxes, insurance and fuel.
- Get pre-approved – apply online.
- Know your trade value – value your trade.

When You Find a Vehicle
- Review the CARFAX or vehicle history report.
- Check for open recalls at NHTSA.gov.
- Look for uneven panel gaps, paint overspray and tire wear.
- Check under the hood and under the vehicle for leaks.
- Confirm the warranty or certified coverage.
On the Test Drive
- Drive on city streets and the highway.
- Listen for noises; test brakes, steering and transmission shifts.
- Try every switch – A/C, heat, windows, infotainment, camera.
Closing the Deal
