10 Million and Counting: FCA US Windsor Assembly Plant Builds Next Generation Minivan

The minivan was born in Windsor, Ontario, and more than three decades later the Windsor Assembly Plant is still building them. With the launch of the all-new Chrysler Pacifica, the plant continues 33 years of minivan production – and has now built more than 10 million minivans.
A Major Investment
- $744 million USD (over $1 billion CAD) invested to upgrade the facility with state-of-the-art technology
- More than 1,200 employees hired since September 2014 to prepare for the launch
- A new body shop, paint upgrades and advanced quality-control systems
Firsts, Just Like the Minivan
Just as the original minivan created a new segment in 1983, the upgraded plant introduced several firsts for the company, including new robotics and assembly processes needed to build the Pacifica Hybrid – the first plug-in hybrid minivan in America. At the heart of it all is a focus on quality, with extensive testing and inspection stations throughout the line.
